General Summary

The Associate Director of Annual Giving – Development is a member of the University Advancement division and works within the Office of Annual Giving to solicit primarily scholarship gifts from Butler donor prospects. The Associate Director works directly with the Executive Director of Annual Giving on all initiatives in support of Butler’s comprehensive annual giving program, with primary focus given to the President’s Club (annual giving donor society). Collaboration is expected with Development, Alumni and Engagement Programs, Advancement Services, Marketing Communications, University Advancement Vice President, and the President’s Office. The Associate Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for communicating the goals of Butler University to donor prospects through face-to-face personal solicitation. A comfort level in soliciting prospective donors for gifts of $1,000+ is required.

Responsibilities

Frontline Fund Raising/President’s Club Management

  • Manage a portfolio of donor prospects with a focus on prospect discovery and qualification, President’s Club renewals and increases, and Butler Fund for Student Scholarship (Annual Fund) solicitations
  • Conduct, at minimum, 100 donor visits annually
  • Meet established fundraising goals each year; sample metrics may include number of visits, number of proposals submitted, and dollars raised for the Butler Fund for Student Scholarship (Annual Fund)
  • Utilize Advance (fundraising database) and Blackbaud Fundraiser Performance Management to document communication and visits with prospects within 72 hours
  • Effectively communicate results of visits with appropriate staff members; provide necessary follow-up in a timely manner
  • Establish oneself as a knowledgeable staff member by learning University priorities, messages related to colleges/units on campus and best practices related to higher education fundraising and personal solicitation
  • Attend related donor events as appropriate (e.g., Homecoming, Family Weekend, hospitality events, etc.)
  • Partner with Executive Director of Annual Giving, Development Office and Advancement Services on identification and research of prospects
  • Partner with Donor Relations to provide direction and planning for President’s Club giving society engagement (e.g., special programming, courtesy provisions, communication, and events)
  • Compose giving society communications

 Faculty and Staff Giving Coordinator

  • Act as a representative for the Office of Annual Giving at appropriate events (e.g., departmental and division meetings, HR new hire orientation, Staff Assembly, etc.)
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct solicitations
  • Partner with Advancement Services to track project results
  • Partner with Human Resources, IT, Advancement Services, and other areas as needed to ensure faculty/staff data accuracy
  • Coordinate and lead faculty and staff donor relations efforts including private donor events and stewardship communications

Special Programs

  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Annual Giving (Mass Solicitations) to coordinate and direct special University fundraising programs including, but not limited to Giving Tuesday and Day of Giving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Butler University
  • 1-2 years of fundraising or equivalent experience, preferably in higher education
  • Professional and collegial demeanor and ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy
  • A track record of high achievement and meeting or exceeding goals
  • Highly organized with the ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated pattern of flexibility, ability to manage multiple projects, and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and relational databases including Advance, Blackbaud Fundraiser Performance Management, and Scalefunder
  • Willingness/ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Willingness/ability to travel locally and regionally as needed to manage portfolio of prospects effectively and to lead events
