General Statement of Duties: 

The Executive Director of Institutional Advancement (EDIA) is a chief advancement officer of the College reporting directly to the president.  The EDIA is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive plan that demonstrates the relevance of GCC’s strategic goals to the current and emerging needs of the greater community, defines how internal and external entities can build stronger coalitions of shared purposes, and delineates the most innovative and efficient way of securing the financial support necessary to achieving and sustaining those goals.  To ensure that the EDIA’s authority is commensurate with those responsibilities, s/he will oversee all offices and functions that relate the realization of those goals including the GCC Foundation, Alumni Relations and Legislative Affairs.  The successful candidate will provide leadership and support for the Foundation Board to facilitate its ability to raise, receive, manage, disburse and steward private funds, and to strengthen relationships with key external constituencies including alumni, donors, legislators, civic associations and the general public.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • To lead by example, dedicating a majority of their time to external engagement and major gift development.
  • To develop innovative strategies for securing gifts and cultivating donors.
  • To develop an external deployment plan and schedule for the President to ensure their time and talents are focused on the most significant and sustainable opportunities.
  • To identify, train, and empower other human assets within GCC ensuring that the College consistently showcases its best people and best ideas.
  • To create greater synergy among and between Advancement functions, ensuring that success in one area (e.g. legislative support) is catalytic of success in another (e.g. fundraising).
  • To lead the Advancement team, providing effective oversight and professional development of staff and operations in order to achieve the best outcomes.
  • To develop synergies with the marketing department in order to build a robust online giving program and social media presence that connects the community with the College.
  • To develop specific plans that allow key constituencies to be more directly engaged in the creation, shaping and realization of the College’s strategic objectives and targeted initiatives.
  • To provide strategic guidance and leadership for, and coordination among all annual, major gift, and capital campaigns and related events and activities, including alumni affairs.
  • To secure major financial gifts for the College, directly and indirectly through the efforts of other representatives including planned giving and bequests, naming opportunities, sponsorships and in-kind contributions to support student scholarships, College programming, and College initiatives.
  • To provide strategic direction to the Foundation Board and serve as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Board and its committees.
  • To provide oversight of the Foundation’s finances, including activities related to the annual audit, the budget, and the endowment.
  • To collaborate with the Financial Aid Office to administer scholarships funded through individual endowments and /or grants.
  • To represent GCC at a variety of College and community events such as conferences, receptions, and cultural events.
  • To monitor legislation and policy activities, to update and advise College leadership and staff about relevant policy proposals and actions, and work with College staff to analyze potential impacts on the college.  To communicate with the college community to inform them of relevant government issues.
  • To serve as a communications conduit between the President and legislative offices.
  • To develop a wide range of materials in support of the College’s government relations agenda, such as talking points, legislative summaries, factsheets, testimony, reports, and letters and to create a virtual repository accessible to all those representing GCC in various capacities to ensure message discipline.
  • To plan and implement events and other activities to support the College’s external objectives.
  • To serve as College Liaison to Green River Festival, including annual contract negotiation, participation in planning meetings throughout spring semester and coordination of all College resources related to the July festival operations on campus.

 Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as a member of the President’s staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the President or Foundation Board

Requirements:

Skills/Experience/Training Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Human Relations, Communications, Finance or related field;
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact effectively with governmental, community, and non-profit leaders.
  • Excellent organization, communication, financial and supervisory skills and business savvy.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented management style.
  • Familiarity with national philanthropic trends.
  • Strong technology knowledge and skills including the web and PC; (Raiser’s Edge and Banner preferred).
  • Significant leadership experience of a non-profit or fundraising organization, including effective oversight of staff.
  • Professional experience within a community college or university setting is preferred.
  • Superb project management skills and the ability to work on many fronts simultaneously.
  • Experience with Board and donor relations, cultivation, major gift solicitation, on-line giving, and planned giving.
  • Communicating complex concepts through oral and written mediums.
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans as well as responding to short term objectives.
  • Planning and organizing.
  • Critical and strategic thinking.
  • Event planning and management.
  • Working with people from diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Human Relations, Communications, Finance or related field
