The Associate Director, Annual Giving for Homewood Undergraduate Giving in the centrally-based Office of Annual Giving (OAG) reports to the Director of Strategic & Divisional Priorities in OAG.

The Associate Director, Homewood Undergraduate Giving is a member of the Strategic and Divisional Priorities team within OAG.  Fast-paced and highly variable, this role is best suited for an individual with deft interpersonal skills and collaborative instincts, high adaptability and creativity, strong communicative abilities, and intellectual curiosity.  The Associate Director serves as a strategic partner and service provider focusing primarily on growing undergraduate alumni participation and revenue for the two flagship schools of undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University—the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering, as well as Blue Jays Unlimited.

The Office of Annual Giving is a growing team that currently consists of 8 colleagues who provide annual giving services to the nine schools of the university, various departments of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and several centers and institutes, totaling over 25 partners. These annual giving services include developing comprehensive and integrated solicitation strategies that are optimal for each development unit and are data-driven. Like all offices and units in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), OAG is committed to a donor-directed philanthropy philosophy.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Working closely with the Head of OAG and the Director of Strategic & Divisional priorities, the Associate Director will partner with assigned Homewood units to develop and implement a comprehensive annual giving strategy based on institutional and unit goals.
  • Determine a strategy for assigned projects and partner with the Integrated Marketing team to develop project deliverables and timelines.
  • Meet regularly with unit partners to discuss year to date results, upcoming projects, and key unit initiatives.
  • Proactively manage against institutional and unit goals, partnering with the Data Analytics team to create meaningful reports that support data-driven decision making.
  • Execute email campaigns. This includes email campaign set-up, scheduling, testing, and deployment. Analyze and report on campaign performance, including insights and recommendations for improving results.
  • Review data sets, develop and execute mail strategies. The Assoc. Director will be assigned Homewood undergraduate segments for management. S/he will be responsible for reviewing plans, data output, and package.
  • Know the audiences of each segment through analysis of data for trends, habits, and characteristics that with strategic marketing, can develop or shift into upgraded donors, new donors or donors with consecutive giving.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Strategic & Divisional Priorities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience in direct mail and digital marketing for development and alumni relations, non-profit media and/or communications.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and sound judgment around prioritizing many and sometimes competing obligations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to donor and staff inquiries and concerns.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Thrive in high-energy environments that often have short deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Have the ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to provide solid customer service while understanding the boundaries around confidentiality and protected patient information.
  • strong organizational and prioritizing skills with the ability to stay calm under pressure when handling multiple tasks;
