Director of Alumni Engagement

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Programs, the Director will develop and execute innovative programming for New School Alumni. They will identify and implement effective strategies for engaging alumni in volunteer, leadership, and mentoring opportunities that strengthen their relationships with the university, creating meaningful connections between current and prospective students, and alumni. The Director will continue to build and maintain partnerships with key university stakeholders to ensure information sharing and collaboration on alumni engagement activities.

Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and lead a robust alumni engagement program, including a master calendar of international, regional, industry, and reunion events both in person and online, along with volunteer activities designed to foster pride and connect alumni with other alumni and current students.
  • Create and expand the Alumni Communities program of cohorts within a diverse population of alumni based on interest, geography, or industry, by identifying and recruiting alumni volunteers to lead these affinity groups and to expand them through peer‐to‐peer outreach.
  • Ideate, plan, and execute all content, logistics, and communications for virtual and in person alumni events and gatherings
  • Launch and expand engagement with alumni through the university’s formal mentoring program, The New School Network (Graduway), driving alumni and student participation, tracking connections, meetings, mentorship ratings, and KPI outcomes.
  • Train academic partners, particularly those in Student Success, on benefits of The New School Network, identifying ways to optimize student and alumni connections and activity.
  • Own and cultivate a portfolio of alumni volunteers and provide regular 1:1 contact to energize their efforts, support their activities, and increase their investment in the institution.
  • Serve on institution-wide committees for special events representing alumni engagement and forging strong and collaborative relationships with campus partners to maximize alumni and student engagement opportunities and outreach.
  • Oversee and ensure the accurate reporting of engagement KPIs working with Alumni Engagement and Advancement Services colleagues, reporting on the success of alumni engagement programs through regular analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from post-event surveys, mentorship ratings, and other sources.
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Alumni Communications on the messaging strategy for newsletters, social media, invitations, announcements, and more.
  • Supervise and manage an alumni engagement professional(s) by providing clear direction and developing key objectives and goals for the role.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; master’s degree preferred.
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience in alumni relations, development, membership, public relations or marketing within a complex organization.
  • Track record managing successful large-scale engagement events and high-level volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely and effectively with a variety of constituencies including, but not limited to alumni, administrators, students, and faculty.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and relational databases such as Banner.
  • Strong affinity with The New School’s mission and its community.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy and Requirements.
