Position Summary: 

The Development Data Analyst is responsible for the strategic analysis and reporting critical development data and information pulled from the university’s donor and alumni database. This individual will oversee the major gift pipeline with data mining and data analysis for the Advancement team and will be responsible for designing various data analysis services to mine to identify and prioritize potential major gift prospects. This position will exercise a high level of creativity and quality control to ensure reports and data extracts convey comprehensive and complex information in an understandable and highly accurate manner. The Development Data Analyst will be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation and will regularly conduct thorough data analysis of the alumni database to ensure optimal development officer resource alignment around top prospects.

The Development Data Analyst will manage Alumni marketing automation by conducting data analytics to create custom marketing pathways for UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni across degree programs, industries, geographies, and class years. This person will follow emerging trends and best practices in annual giving direct marketing, technology, and analytics. The role will also oversee the assessment and execution of various technology solutions to enhance broad-based marketing channels, serving as the primary system data manager for key technologies managed by Annual Giving, including Salesforce marketing automation tools. The Development Data Analyst will address key questions around solicitation structures, clustering for segmentation, and the effectiveness of current fundraising and engagement practices. The Development Data Analyst will serve as a primary data liaison to internal partners at the School and University level and will be responsible for creating portfolio activity reports and implementing regular reviews with team leads and their respective development officers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, & Experience: 

Data analysis, data reporting, or data mining experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud software products – CRM
  • A broad knowledge of Alumni and Development operations, in a large university or experience in a non-profit fundraising office.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other marketing automation tools
