Position Summary: 

The Office of Annual Giving generates annual financial support for the University of Maryland (UMD) as a Development team within University Relations (UR). This critical work includes multi-channel direct marketing tactics geared to acquire, retain and upgrade annual donors. This team drives alumni donor growth for major gift efforts and UMD’s future fundraising pipeline and is responsible for US News and World Report alumni donor participation rate which is a campus priority.

As a member of the Office of Annual Giving, the Annual Giving Program Manager will report to the Director of Annual Giving. They serve as an expert consultant and liaison for assigned schools, colleges, and units – ensuring that UR and campus partners utilize the most efficient, creative, and effective annual giving strategies across UMD’s direct response mediums: e-solicitation, direct mail appeals, a student call center, crowdfunding, texting, social media advertising and giving day.
This person will analyze results to identify growth opportunities and develop creative, data-driven strategies to improve donor participation and increase revenue. The Annual Giving Manager will contribute to annual planning and budget allocation, collaboratively deploying resources in smart, innovative ways that maximize annual growth and expand UMD’s base of support.
The Annual Giving Manager works in an environment dedicated to advancing the mission of University Relations and of the University of Maryland, building positive and meaningful relationships with colleagues and constituents, and expanding annual donor participation and increasing dollars raised for UMD and campus partners.
Minimum Qualifications: 
Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
At least 3 years of relevant work experience in fields such as marketing, development, nonprofit management, alumni relations, individual giving, digital marketing, social media and digital media promotions, or similar required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising or marketing principles, concepts, and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, project and time management skills required.
  • Ability to proactively perform strategic data analysis to define and refine efforts, analyze problems, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple complex projects with limited direction.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also be a team leader.
  • Experience leading projects from the concept stage through implementation.
  • Very strong writing experience for web and direct mail appeals preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic HTML preferred.
Preferences: 
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Thorough understanding of and insight into digital/new media landscapes including social media and website tools, trends, and analysis.
