The Director of Direct Marketing will oversee strategic appeal creation and project management for annual giving within the Division of Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement. 

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Annual Giving, the Director plays a key role in increasing annual giving participation to the University of Pittsburgh. The Director manages and grows a team which works collaboratively with on-campus partners to create direct marketing appeals through the channels of direct mail, e-mail and SMS texting. They manage vendor relationships, ensure budgetary constraints are met, and advise annual giving strategy by providing recommendations for all solicitations to the Pitt Fund and Schools/Colleges. 

The Director will oversee a staff dedicated to project management, data analysis, and messaging for assigned campus partners. They will also oversee and execute direct marketing for assigned campus partners and the Pitt Fund. The Director will collaborate with the Senior Director, Annual Programs on University-wide initiatives like Pitt Day of Giving to ensure cross-channel marketing and messaging is consistent and cohesive.

The Director will have a professional history of making data-driven decisions to inform strategy, creating dynamic appeals that utilize variable data to focus on personalization, and implementing best practices and industry trends for annual giving direct marketing.

Have a Master’s degree (preferred) or a Bacholor’s degree with 7+ year’s functional/relatable experience. 5-7 years of direct marketing experience, preferably in higher education and annual giving. Must have two or more years management experience. Preferred competencies: Project management, time management, good judgement, attention to detail, strategic planning, creativity, and strong relationship management. Experience working with Microsoft Office (excel in particular) and donor databases such as Advance or SalesForce.
