The Office of Engagement at the University of Virginia is currently seeking an Assistant Director, UVA Clubs & Global Engagement. This position provides high-level guidance and support to the volunteer leaders of regionally-based UVA Clubs for alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Through ongoing communication, coordination, training, and the support of various programs, the Assistant Director will ensure robust engagement opportunities for the University’s constituents.

The Assistant Director works with a portfolio of 150-200 volunteer leaders of 20-25 UVA Clubs boards by supporting their volunteer activities to further the mission of the University of Virginia. The incumbent provides guidance, resources, and support to the volunteers of these boards to meaningfully engage alumni, parents, and friends in the life of University. Working with the Director, UVA Clubs and Global Engagement, and a team of fellow Regional Engagement Officers, the Assistant Director will support the work of the UVA Club boards in their portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Form and maintain relationships with 150-200 volunteer leaders of 20-25 UVA Clubs boards; communicate regularly with volunteer leaders to provide support, guidance, education, training, and resources.

  • Strengthen relationships between the University and UVA Clubs boards and leaders via in-person or virtual visits, meetings, phone calls, web meetings, and other communications.

  • Attend meetings for Club boards in portfolio to answer questions and provide resources from the Office of Engagement and the University.

  • Assist Clubs with planning of events and programs, volunteer outreach and recruitment, volunteer onboarding, and club communications.

  • Cultivate and steward volunteer leaders and other constituents; encourage philanthropic relationships with UVA; solicit and steward volunteer leaders for participation-level contributions to the University.

  • Conduct Engagement visits to identify, cultivate, and steward volunteer leaders.

  • Support other programs of the UVA Clubs & Global Engagement Team and the Office of Engagement, as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience. Experiences as a student, intern, or volunteer may qualify.

  • Experience with volunteer/student/alumni programming; project planning/management; and/or marketing/communication duties.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to exercise good judgment.

  • Proficiency working with personal computers and related hardware/software. 

  • Ability to travel with frequent overnight and some weekend work.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Desktop Publishing.

Evening and weekend hours are involved, and the ability to travel when permitted.  The position travels 20-25% of the time. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job requires the ability to travel some distance to attend meetings and programs.
