2,400 current and former donors received this letter. We also had a version of the letter & remit for higher-level asks. Each letter was handsigned by the Executive Director, received a Post-It note handwritten by a current student placed on the first page, and stamped with a real stamp.
|What makes this unique|
What makes this effort unique is the time and energy put into personalizing each and every ask. We treated all donors, no matter their giving level, as potential major donors. To do this for 2,400 donors was a huge undertaking for a very small Advancement staff (2 people), but has made our donors feel more connected with the school community (several even wrote back notes to the girls who had written them a Post-It!) Qualitatively, it has opened up conversations with donors who were delighted to receive it - it's rare that a direct mail piece ends up also feeling like a stewardship piece to donors!
Final outcome is pending, but YTD, the appeal has raised $49,897, compared to $47K raised in the prior year's appeal. It includes 2 donors making their first gift, 5 donors reactivating their giving (with last gifts between FY10 and FY16), and several increased donations. We expect the campaign to land at $60K+.
