Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Annual Fund, the Associate Director of Leadership Gifts is responsible for overseeing reunion and non-reunion solicitations of annual unrestricted leadership gifts. Develops and implements strategies to sustain the current success, as well as future growth of the $10+ million annual giving program.  The position is responsible for managing a portfolio of leadership level as well as other high-level (unrestricted gift) prospects.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages prospects in varied relationship stages including; identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Collaborates with Prospect Development Research staff to support the qualification and identification of new prospects.
  • Is responsible for making 100-120 visits per year.
  • Works with the Director of the Annual Fund as well as Major Gift staff to maintain a steady level of high-level unrestricted support among alumni in non-reunion years, as well as those in reunion years.
  • Oversees assigned reunion class drives and is responsible for the development and management of class reunion gift committees. Recruits volunteers and solicits alumni in honor of their reunions.  Working with class leaders, develops and implements class fundraising plans, as well as individual prospect strategies.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Fund’s strategic operating plan.
  • Prepares key statistical and management reports as needed to monitor and expand Fund programs.
  • Collaborates closely with other Alumni Affairs and Development departments and performs other responsibilities upon request, as needed.
  • Co-manages one shared team support member

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.  Minimum of 7 years of experience in university fundraising and administration or related transferable experience.

Additional Qualifications

This position requires a strong command of fundraising principles, a high level of organization, professionalism, and familiarity with the objectives of annual and unrestricted-gift fundraising. Ability and willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings is required. An outgoing and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative working style are essential.  Proven ability to motivate, engage, and work with alumni, students and members of the Harvard University community.  Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and goal-oriented environment. A self-starter who can work effectively as a team member and independently. Superior written and verbal communication skills.  Staff supervisory experience required.  Must be collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented. Must have a positive and optimistic, professional demeanor.  Computer literacy required; must have experience with Windows and fundraising databases.
