General Job Summary

This is an exempt leadership position within the College Advancement division reporting to the Vice President for College Advancement. Serve as the College’s chief development officer.  Plan and provide leadership in the implementation and execution of a comprehensive program to build relationships and generate charitable support for St. Norbert College. Lead and manage other fundraising professionals, including but not limited to the Director level staff and all Associate Development Officers, Development Officers, and Senior Development Officers. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of prospects who have the capability of making commitments of $25,000 or more to St. Norbert College.  This includes cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these prospects as they consider their charitable support, and involve other employees and volunteers in that process where appropriate.
  • Lead a team of development officers and staff and motivate them to achieve fundraising goals.  This includes setting performance goals for development personnel,  reviewing documentation and performance data; providing feedback, and evaluating performance.
  • Design and analyze strategies to be utilized in the solicitation of funds from individuals, corporations and foundations. Represent the College before a variety of individuals and groups providing information concerning fund raising activities and programs.
  • Work collaboratively with other College Advancement staff, College personnel and volunteers to identify relationships, networking, linkage, giving ability, and interest of donors and prospective donors.
  • Serve as a member of the Advancement Leadership Team to help set overall strategy for the Division of College Advancement and policy for the continuous operations of the Division
  • Participate in College Advancement events, meetings and training.
  • Prepare and administer the budget, management controls, policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree with a Master’s preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in fundraising and/or higher education advancement.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and receiving major charitable gifts.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or committment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.
  • Experience in personnel management
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.
  • Ability to talk politely and resolve customer service issues.
  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.
  • Skilled at setting a good example for others. 
  • Skilled at organizing events, programs, projects and seeing them through to completion.
  • Skilled at making presentations to large (>100) groups of people.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.
