Required:
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, public administration or relevant field.

Experience
Required: 5-7 years of experience in professional fundraising, marketing, public relations, or equivalent, and experience within higher education fundraising.

Equipment/Skills
Required: Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills; Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities; Excellent organization skills with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands; Strong self-motivation and the ability to work as a team member; Commitment to maintain a high degree of accuracy in donor records; Must be computer literate, especially database and spreadsheets, and standard office equipment; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, and relate well to students, faculty, staff, diverse audiences and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality; Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.

Preferred:

Education
Preferred: Master’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, public administration or relevant field.

Experience
Preferred: Event planning experience and experience working with volunteers; Must possess knowledge of fundraising principles and practices and maintain a professional, polished demeanor.

Primary Responsibilities

Function: Responsible for developing and administering a coordinated university-wide effort to establish and strengthen ties with University constituents; providing effective communications to enhance the standing of Sul Ross State University to internal and external stakeholders; raising private, corporate, and governmental funds to support the strategic initiatives of the university; and overseeing effective recognition and stewardship programs for donors.

Scope: Includes planning and management of key aspects of resource development and fund-raising programs.

Duties

Essential: This position plans or assists with planning the development activities for Sul Ross State University including cultivating donors and prospective donors, soliciting gifts, and assuring appropriate acknowledgment of all contributions. Serve as the chief liaison with the University Foundation Board and provide assistance as needed for the support organization. Organize or assist with solicitation strategies of donors including but not limited to online giving programs. Plan and coordinate special events and fundraising campaigns, including logistical arrangements. Plan and coordinate the annual giving and donor relations including direct mail campaigns to solicit annual gifts; corporate and foundation relations; and planned giving campaigns. Represent the University at various community events and meetings. Maintain close, positive working relationships with donors, executive staff, faculty, and University staff.

Maintain a database and file of all donor transactions and related development information. Coordinate publicity for development events by determining the most effective advertising medium and approach. Plan or assist with planning events, press releases and other forms of donor recognition. Provide written reports and information as requested. Other duties as assigned. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
