The program coordinator (PC) will cultivate an inclusive culture of philanthropy and gratitude among the University of Michigan student populations, with the support of the ADAG, by developing strategic plans and managing execution of student giving initiatives across the university. The PC will build partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders including, but not limited to, students and student leaders, co-curricular offices, school/college/unit (SCU) fundraisers, and Office of University Development (OUD) colleagues. This position will help implement initiatives aimed at creating diverse pathways to philanthropy at U-M.

This is a full-time, term-limited position ending after three years from the hire date and is eligible for benefits. Before the end of the term, it could be considered for a term extension or for transition to an open-ended position.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • 90% Student Philanthropy (SP) Project Coordination and Project Management 45%
    • Manage all communications and event planning for key SP events including, but not limited to
      • Engaging Victors: Fundraising Conference o Maize Days (including Giving Blueday and Hail Yeah!)
      • Student Donor Thank You Calls
    • Drive strategic planning to grow and improve SP programming
    • Develop marketing collateral for all initiatives
    • Report and assess project results
    • Advocate for student philanthropy initiatives to Annual Giving Team leadership, OUD leadership, and the development community
    • Maintain and update data for projects
  • Relationship Building and Relationship Management 45%
    • Use an equitable approach to identify and recruit an inclusive group of key students and student organizations to engage with to grow SP programming.
    • Provide support and oversight to student philanthropy student groups (e.g., student ambassadors, campaign groups, focus groups, student organizations)
    • Manage SP social media channels as a key engagement tool
    • Create and execute communications including, but not limited to: website content and online student philanthropy learning modules/toolkits
    • Manage requests from individual students, student groups and fundraisers to work with annual giving team
    • Partner and collaborate with OUD and SCU partners to coordinate and implement events
  • 10% Community Collaboration
    • Facilitate best practices sharing around student philanthropy among SCU partners & peer institutions.
    • Assist ADAG with data analysis and management and research on SP trends
    • Contribute content and ideas to weekly team meetings and retreats

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and organize, implement, and initiate programs; both formal and informal experience will be considered including student jobs and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), sound organizational abilities, a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings, and a high degree of creative initiative.
  • Experience managing an engaging social media presence (especially Instagram).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Discretion and an ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • An ability and willingness to quickly learn the university history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, departments, etc., as well as the University culture to be able to persuasively articulate how Michigan distinguishes itself from peer institutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite with the ability to maintain complex spreadsheets.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Close familiarity with and commitment to higher education preferred.
  • An understanding of the University of Michigan campus culture and student culture.
  • Passion and appreciation for the role student philanthropy plays within public institutions of higher education.
